A large-scale Boat Marathon is organized each August. Thirty crews compete in rowing the boats along the Neretva River crossing a distance of 22.5 km from Metkovic to Ploce. The Marathon is organized under the auspices of the president of the Republic of Croatia, and winning the Marathon is a matter of prestige in the small communities of the Neretva River Valley. Especially impressive is the start of the Marathon under the bridge in Metkovic. It attracts more and more tourists each year.
